Welcome to the Digispace!

Miranda Hall

Welcome back to a brand new semester here at UNE and, though a new year has begun, the old Digispace is still up and in action! Now you may be saying “Miranda, what is a Digispace and how long have we had one?” well I’m here to answer all those questions and more.

A year ago, in the fall of 2017, the UNE English department launched a new pilot program focused on digital literacy, naming it the Digital Makerspace, or the Digispace, for short. The idea was to create a place where students and faculty can come to learn how to enhance their online presence, manage an online portfolio, and work on digital projects. The Digispace started with just two Digital Literacy Consultants, one being myself, in a room with a cart full of MacBooks. We started out working on ePortfolio with the English classes, ePortfolio being a blog site hosted by WordPress that allows you to upload your course work into one centralized place, while also looking clean and professional. We then expanded into creating podcasts via Audacity, videos utilizing the green screens, and presentations made with iMovie. While we work with many of the English classes on campus, our doors are open to anyone who needs help.

The Digispace has since expanded with a total of seven Digital Literacy Consultants and a new location. We are now in the downstairs Decary computer lab, with hours during the week and weekend! We are available for help on all sorts of online projects, with each consultant specializing in a different program. Some of us specialize in Audacity, while others do in ePortfolio customization and even HTML coding! Come drop in and see what the Digispace is all about!

The Digispace hours are:

Monday-Friday: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Monday-Thursday: 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Sundays: 2:00 pm – 8:30 pm
