About The Bolt

2007— UNE starts its first student-run publication

In 2007, the University of New England established Nor’easter News, “‘The University of New England’s premier news publication,’ giving students a platform to have their voices heard on a global and local scale,” according to DUNE. Students in Biddeford, Portland, and abroad reported for the monthly print paper.

2012— Print issues stop

Online archives for the print version of Nor’easter News stopped in 2012.

2015— Online publication begins

Online publication archives began in 2015. The online platform for Nor’easter News stories continued to grow.

2020— The publication rebranded
Stormin’ Norman

The publication was rebranded as The Bolt in 2020 and was named after the iconic lightning bolt held by the University’s mascot, Stormin’ Norman.

The Bolt is ‘The University of New England’s student-run digital news website, giving students a platform to have their voices heard globally and locally.’ With staff in Biddeford, Portland, and abroad, we continue to follow the legacy of Nor’easter News and provide distinct coverage across all of UNE’s campuses.

The Bolt’s stories, along with Nor’easter News stories (2015-2020), can be found on this site, which is unethebolt.com.
