This Is Halloween… Tradition
When thinking about Halloween, many traditions come to mind. Scary stories, spooky costumes, free candy, pumpkin carving, and spectacular decorations are a few that most people associate with the October holiday. When remembering the aspects of Halloween that would throw me into the spooky mindset as a child, movies are the first thing that comes to my mind. As a kid, my sister and I would watch every movie that was shown on the Disney channel throughout the month of October. This truly got my sister and I into that Halloween spirit we all know and love. This made me want to reach out to the students of UNE to uncover what their favorite Halloween movies are.
These are a few of the movies students told me they watch every Halloween:
- The Nightmare Before Christmas
- The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
- Hocus Pocus
- Halloweentown
- Halloween
- Goosebumps
- Jeepers Creepers 1-2-3
- Halloween Tree
- The Harry Potter Series
- Coraline
- IT
- The Conjuring
- Annabelle
- The Shining
Five people said The Nightmare Before Christmas, five people said Hocus Pocus, two people said The Great Pumpkin, and two people said Halloweentown. Many of these movies are ones most of us have watched as a kid. This idea makes me think that most of us watched these movies when we were kids around Halloween and still enjoy watching them when the season rolls back around. It allows us to kind of reminisce about our past. So, even with all our homework and studying, we busy college students should try to take today and watch that Halloween movie, or do something special, that brings back the tradition of Halloween we may be missing and love. If thats not your cup of tea, get your friends and roommates together and make a new tradition!
