Spring Sports Preview: Men’s Lacrosse
February 19, 2020
Spring is upon us Nor’easter Nation! Yes, there is snow on the ground, and the weather hasn’t been very warm recently, but that’s not going to stop Men’s Lacrosse from opening their regular season today against the in-state foe, Husson University.
After going 7-10, (2-6 in conference play) last season, the returners are looking to improve from a team that graduated six seniors not even a full year ago.
Zach Biron, a junior Long-Stick Midfielder, says his team has high expectations for this season, despite their past struggles and missing playoffs, “It gave our returners a lot of motivation to work harder this fall ball in order to be the best we can be as a team,” said Biron.
Pre-season excitement isn’t uncommon in the sports world, but the Nor’easters have a luxury to start their season that their opponents do not.
That luxury is a six-game home stretch.
The Nor’easters will be able to keep their legs fresh for the tone-setting stretch of the season, “It will keep us fresh and rested in the beginning so we aren’t traveling as much as other CCC teams will be, said Biron, “We are looking to piece together a lot of early wins, which will be great motivation to keep the streak going on the road.”
Some Nor’easters that will be key to contributing to the early momentum of the season are senior captain and the team’s leading goal scorer from last season, Garett Bozek, senior captain, Defenseman Adam Race, and senior, starting Goalkeeper Sam Mackenzie, who earned all seven victories in the crease for the Nor’easters last season.
If you can’t make it out to the season opener today, the men hit Blue Bolt field next this weekend, Saturday, February 22, for a matinee matchup against Wheaton College.
