UNE’s Women’s Basketball hosted Gordon College for the second year in a row as they enter the playoffs.

BIDDEFORD, ME- UNE women’s basketball is just starting to take on the Commonwealth Coast Conference (the CCC) playoffs as they fought hard for a win against number five seed, Gordon College. The team hosted Gordon College on Tuesday, February 25th as both teams put up a big fight.

In the 2018-2019 season, our team played Gordon College in the first round of playoffs as well. UNEs player Jocelyn Chaput led the team with an incredible 23 points. Gordon College’s lead player Abby Vampatella only came in with 16 points. Making UNE take home the win last year with a score of 64-39

This year’s game was the first round of playoffs, so it was no surprise both teams were hungry to win. Nor’Easter Abby Cavallaro gave the team three free throws in the last 11.6 seconds of the game, handing us the surpassing score of 60-58.

Cavallaro played a total of 40 minutes in the game, racking up a total of 23 points and 3 steals. UNE player Madalyn Sanborn supported Cavallaro with ten points and five rebounds. Jocelyn Chaput, who is the CCC 2nd Team, an All-conference honor, put in a total of ten points for the team followed by Senior Sadie Nelson who is the CCC 3rd Team added in a total of eight points.

Thursday, February 27th, the girls will be traveling down to Springfield, MA to play Western New England. The WNE Golden Bears are seeded in the number one sport right now after they won 58-49 at their last in-season game against UNE.
