Write in a journal, talk to someone, and hug your loved ones a little tighter: we all process stress and grief independently and uniquely but it doesn’t have to be an isolated matter. I know that I frequently turn to music when overcome with stress or a heap of overwhelming feelings. Music is like a friend, a warm hug, and medicine for the soul. With that in mind, I leave you with “Volcano,” an album that may make working through the stress and heartbreak that hangs heavy on the communities of Maine just a little easier.
Jungle has recently swept the world with “Back on 74,” the first song of this album to becomemainstream. This smooth and upbeat retro hit is accompanied by a choreographed music video1 which quickly became a dance trend on TikTok2 and other social media platforms.
Songs like “Candle Flame” and “I’ve Been in Love” both utilize the swagger of 90’s hip-hop in their verses as well as disco-esque instrumentals and rhythms to create high danceability.
The lead vocals on most songs are high-pitched—which are quite difficult to replicate—yet smooth, and pair well with the bass guitar, keys, and multiple percussion types, like a tambourine or synth beats.
Overall, Jungle has created a well-flowing album that could be complexly danced to, or simply swayed to for the full forty-five minutes. It’s retro sound that pulls in both 80’s and 90’s house-music sounds, and disco throwbacks effortlessly inspires me to get on my feet and groove along; I myself skating circles around these tracks in a roller rink.
