In the opening match, I faced off against Beckett Shanahan, a sophomore marine biology major, and lost the game 6-21. All matches were played to 21, switching every five serves.
The tournament was hosted by RA Johanna Robinson, a senior medical biology major from the 1st floor of Champlain, and RA Bella St. George, a senior double majoring in medical biology and environmental science from the 4th, who created a lively atmosphere complete with music, snacks, and drinks for all participants and spectators.
“I thought the tournament would be a fun idea since I see people making use of the ping pong table in the lounge! I think it was a success,” said Robinson.
The tournament almost didn’t happen due to a broken net, but the game was back on thanks to a net donation by Sokokias Residence Hall.
After a night of intense matches, the tournament crowned three winners:
- Beckett Shanahan, a sophomore Marine Biology major
- Corbin Schreindorfer, a sophomore Dental Hygiene student
- Jonah Wolfe, a sophomore majoring in Environmental Studies
The prizes are currently in transit, and contestants are still waiting to find out which item they will receive. The trio gets to choose from a colorful Owala water bottle, a cozy tortilla blanket, or a waterproof speaker.
Overall, the event was a great success. Look for future events; many take place just one floor below your dorm room!
