Tomorrow, students may begin to notice a unique occurrence: many UNE community members are wearing the color purple. That’s because, on Thursday, October 17th, UNE will be participating in Purple Thursday. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to wear purple in support of those who have been impacted by domestic violence.
As stated by posters put up around campus, purple “serves as a bold reminder of the need for awareness and advocacy against domestic violence.”
This is just one of many ways the University will be participating in domestic violence awareness throughout the month of October. UNE will also host a Survivor Stories talk in the Cloud Lounge on October 24th from 5:15 to 7:00 p.m.
The UNE pub in Ripich Commons is giving students a chance to show their support by ordering a limited-edition purple drink. And interactive activities, such as a ‘Never Have I Ever’ board located on the catwalk, can be found across campus.
