On Saturday, February 15th, the Nor’Easters headed into battle with Curry to decide who will head into the semi-finals on March 1st.
Curry College started with a lead, scoring a goal halfway through the first period. The lead didn’t last long when UNE’s first-year Cam Bergman scored the tying goal with help from first-year Brayden Cook just three minutes later.
“It felt great scoring the first goal. This week, we have been focusing on Curry because we know how good of a team they are. So getting the first goal felt really good,” said left-winger Cam Bergman, a first-year student. That tie didn’t last long when the Colonels’ Nolan McDonough heightened Currys’ score to 2-1.
“We could have gotten some pucks in deep and some blocked shots. But overall, I feel we played a good game,” said Bergman.
In a scoreless second period from both teams, UNE sophomore Dominic Murphy brought in the equalizer. Tying the score to 2-2 in the third period. “In the moment, it felt really good to tie the game up and get the momentum back. But, unfortunately, we couldn’t get the job done. So, at the moment, it was good to tie the game,” said Murphy.
Curry regained the lead a few minutes later with a goal from the Colonels’ Nolan Mcdonough just before starting a power play for a major penalty. Colonels’ Victor Daigneault secured Currys’ win with a fourth goal. Nor’Easter Dylan Scuett brought the score up to 4-3 when scoring UNE’s last goal of the game.
Nor’Easter goalie Joey Stanizzi (Senior) had 29 saves, and Will Spitzer (Senior brought in a game-high of four-blocked shots.
The Nor’Easters will be playing at Wentworth Institute of Technology on Friday at 7:00 pm.
