McDonalds No-Cheese Sticks of Shame
February 3, 2016
As a both an adamant cheese lover and frequent McDonald’s patron, I was beyond excited when McDonald’s announced that they would now be selling yummy, delicious mozzarella sticks. All I could think about was the possibility of cheesy goodness at the miniscule cost of $1. Win, win right? Evidently not. Recently, many customers have been complaining about a lack of cheese in the mozzarella sticks. Yes, you read that right. Cheese-less mozzarella sticks. What the fudge, Mickey D’s? This epidemic has been reported across the United States and all the way to Europe.
McDonald’s released an official apology to Buzzfeed News about the no-cheese sticks of shame. Their spokesperson, Lisa McComb, stated “In these instances, we believe the cheese melted out during the baking process in our kitchens and shouldn’t have been served. We apologize to any customers who may have been affected. We are working to fix this in our restaurants.” My question is how hot are these ovens that they are capable of baking out cheese? I can readily think of a lot of oven baked or fried recipes that include cheeses of all sorts that do not get “melted out”. Lasagna, ziti, gratin potatoes, chicken parmesan, real mozzarella sticks. Maybe I should really be asking about the “cheese” that McDonald’s has been using in the sticks.
If so many cheese-less sticks have been put out into world, I wonder what other mistakes McDonald’s and other fast food restaurants produce. While it’s not dangerous in any way, it might be enough for me to start inspecting my fast food before leaving the building. While it’s only a $1 purchase, I think it says a lot about the lack of integrity and dedication to patrons that large business like McDonald’s, Sonic and Burger King have.
